The gold and silver prices are mixed on Tuesday afternoon, with the gold futures down $19, while silver has been rallying again.

The silver futures are currently up $1.81 to $86.90, although both the futures and the spot price did cross over $89 per ounce earlier this morning before a sell-off over the last hour.

Much as I’ve been suggesting over the past year that I’ve been writing this column, there doesn’t appear to be any immediate end to the volatility currently in sight. Particularly because one of the things that’s so fascinating about what’s happening with the gold and silver prices right now is that this is even before there has been any sort of new bank failure or crack in the treasury market.

There are certainly indications that things in the plumbing are not functioning normally right now, although the silver price just touched $90, before the Fed is even actively doing an acknowledged quantitative easing program (even if they are already doing something that sounds an awful lot like quantitative easing).
